A Time for Courage and Truth
featuring special guest speaker Peter G. Peterson
|
"We've reached the make or break point in American history...it is time to put politics aside and put the country first and solve these problems with courage and clarity."
"Which the American public, when told the truth, will respond with a commitment to sensible and workable solutions."
Peter G Peterson, senior chairman to The Blackstone Group, the private investment banking firm which he co-founded in 1985, earlier this year founded the Peter G. Peterson Foundation pledging one billion dollars. The goal of the new Foundation will be to build broad public understanding of the major issues facing the nation and the realistic priorities and timetables involved.
In a legendary 40+ year career, Mr. Peterson became a chief executive in his 30's (Bell & Howard), Secretary of Commerce in his 40's (appointed by President Nixon), and chairman/CEO of Lehman Brothers (1973). At that time, he served in the dual roles of chairman of the National Commission on Productivity and chairman of a US-Soviet Commercial Commission that negotiated lend-lease agreements. He was also chairman of the US Council of the International Chamber of Commerce.
He is chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations and founding chairman of the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He co-chaired the Conference Board's Commission on Public Trust and Private Enterprise.
He is the founding president of the Concord Coalition, a bipartisan citizens group dedicated towards developing accords on national fiscal responsibility. In that vein, he headed a coalition of 500 business leaders, academic and political heads banded in a Bi-Partisan Budget Appeal group.
Mr. Peterson is recipient of some 19 awards and citations and holds eight honorary degrees.
