Jules B. Kroll
Founder and Former Chairman of Kroll Worldwide, Former Vice Chairman of Marsh
Jules Kroll invented the white collar corporate detective business nearly 30 years ago, ultimately creating the prototype for a new breed of professional services dedicated to mitigating risk. Acknowledged as the founder of the modern investigation, intelligence, and security industry, he built a staff of former prosecutors, law enforcement officials, journalists and academics to employ sophisticated fact-finding techniques. Noteable among his achievements was unearthing the assets hidden by such deposed dictators as Jean-Claude Duvalier, Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos and Saddam Hussein. He sold his firm to Marsh & McLennan. Ever the restless entrepreneur (Cornell University elected him Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002 and was similary cited by British American Business, Inc.) he recently embarked on a new mission, that of creating a rating agency to challenge the Big Three — Standard & Poors, Moody's and Fitch. He received a BA from Cornell Universoty in 1963 and a LL.B degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1966. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1966 and began his career as an Assistant Disctrict Attorney in Manhattan. He is chairman of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Foundation. Mr. Kroll is a former member of the Board of Regents of Georgetown University and of the board of trustees of Cornell.
