Eduardo Menascé retired as President of Verizon Communications’ Enterprise Solutions Group on December 31, 2005, after 5 years in that role. Formed in 2000 when Bell Atlantic bought GTE, Verizon is a top US telecom services provider, operating nearly 49 million access lines in 28 states and Washington, DC. Verizon Wireless, the company’s joint venture with Vodafone Group, is the #2 US wireless provider, with more than 51 million customers. Outside the US, Verizon’s affiliates serve 31 million wireless customers and operate 5 million access lines; the company also operates a national Internet protocol (IP) network. The company also has nearly 18 million US long-distance lines and has expanded its enterprise services with the acquisition of MCI. 2005 revenues were $75.1 billion.
As President, Enterprise Solutions Group, Mr. Menascé’s responsibilities included marketing, sales and service delivery for large businesses and strategic account customers.
Previously, Mr. Menascé held several significant international positions with GTE. He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CTI MOVIL S.A.–Argentina since October 1996. CTI serves more than 900,000 wireless telephone customers in the North and South Regions of Argentina. Prior to this appointment, he had served as Chief Operating Officer for CANTV in Venezuela since July 1995 and, before that, as CANTV’s Chief Financial Officer since 1994.
Mr. Menascé began work with GTE Corporation in 1974 in Sao Paulo, as Chief Financial Officer for GTE Brazil in the Lighting and Consumer Electronics Division. In 1979, he was named General Manager of GTE’s Brazil-Lighting Division. Two years later, he was named President of GTE’s France-Lighting Division.
Prior to joining GTE, Mr. Menascé worked with Wagner Lockheed Brazil as an industrial engineer, and with Cresap, McCormick and Paget, USA and Brazil, as a management consultant. From 1992 to 1994, he was with Alcatel Telecommunicaciones Brazil as its Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Menascé is a member of the board of advisors of Adventis, a leading management and strategy consultancy to the converging global information industries.
